Cynomolgus monkey PBMC
Cynomolgus macaque peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), owing to their high degree of similarity to the human immune system, have become an essential tool in drug development, immunotherapy, vaccine research, and other fields, particularly playing an irreplaceable role in preclinical studies of gene therapy and cell therapy.

Crab-eating macaque ( Cynomolgus macaque , commonly known as the “stone crab monkey”) Due to their high degree of similarity to the human immune system, PBMCs have become an essential tool in drug development, immunotherapy, vaccine research, and other fields, playing an irreplaceable role especially in preclinical studies of gene therapy and cell therapy.
Major applications of cynomolgus monkey PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) in biomedical research and the underlying reasons:
1. Highly similar to the human immune system
- The crab-eating macaque is a non-human primate (NHP) whose immune system—including T cells, B cells, and NK cells—is highly similar to that of humans, making it more valuable for preclinical research than rodent models such as mice.
- PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) comprise lymphocytes (T, B, and NK cells) and monocytes, making them suitable for research in immunology, vaccine development, cell therapy, and other fields.
2. Ideal Models for Preclinical Drug Evaluation
- Drug safety assessment: Evaluating the impact of candidate drugs (such as antibodies and cell therapy products) on the immune system.
- Pharmacodynamic studies: assessing the immune responses elicited by vaccines and cancer immunotherapies, such as CAR-T cell therapy and PD-1 inhibitors.
- Toxicology studies: to determine whether a drug induces abnormal immune activation or suppression.
3. Applicable to gene therapy and cell therapy research
- Crab-eating macaque PBMCs can be used in preclinical studies of CAR-T, TCR-T, stem cell therapy, and other applications to evaluate the proliferation, cytotoxicity, cytokine release, and other characteristics of cell-based products.
- Due to the partial homology between the MHC (major histocompatibility complex) of cynomolgus monkeys and that of humans, their PBMCs can be used for studies of allogeneic immune responses.
4. Support for Infectious Disease and Vaccine Research
- Used to study the immune response following infection with viruses such as HIV, SARS-CoV-2, and influenza.
- Evaluate the immunogenicity of vaccines, such as mRNA vaccines and adenovirus-vector vaccines.
5. Mature standardized experimental system
- Crab-eating macaque PBMC The technologies for cell isolation, cryopreservation, and resuscitation are well established, enabling the stable supply of high-quality cells suitable for high-throughput screening and Good Laboratory Practice Compliance research.
