Analysis of Shanghai’s April Economic Performance

Due to the impact of the pandemic, Shanghai has implemented district-based static management, with the Huangpu River serving as the dividing line, since 5:00 a.m. on March 28. More recently, businesses have begun to resume work and production. On May 19, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Statistics released economic performance data for April.
In April 2022, industrial enterprises above designated size in our city (hereinafter referred to as “industry”) recorded a total industrial output value of RMB 128.617 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 61.5%.
From January to April, fixed-asset investment in our city declined by 11.3% compared with the same period last year.
Three Major In the investment field, cities Infrastructure investment declined by 21.4% year on year; industrial investment fell by 17.7%; and real estate development investment decreased by 10.0%. Among the city’s three major sectors, primary-sector investment dropped by 52.4% year on year, secondary-sector investment fell by 17.6%, and tertiary-sector investment declined by 10.0%.
